rohini new moon

NEW MOON IN ROHINI NAKSHATRA  on  Thursday, June 6, 2024

by Jennifer Aquilina MAcOM, Dipl.Ac.

This time of year in the northern hemisphere is lush with nature’s effulgence, full of greening and blossoming beauty. Rohini, lies within sidereal Taurus and it’s star (tara) is the large, bright Red star Aldebaran associated with fertility.  Rohana Shakti has to do with growing, climbing, healing, sexuality and fertility. This is the growth of all of creation, the descent of energy into matter.  Whether in your personal sadhana, meditation, ceremony or however you connect with the Sacred~ this is a beautiful time to be mindful and connect to the sacred Earth and all of creation. Consider looking into how to help with the climate issues we are all facing on our Mother Earth, Bhu Devi, Pachamama.

The Devatas associated with Rohini are Prajapati and Brahma, in one story, arising out of the cosmic waters and whose desire was to create all the beings and everything in the Universe. The animal yoni associated with Rohini is a snake. Snakes can be both very wise and represent healing, and also represent more sensual things like sex, fertility, food and earthly pleasures. Rohini is also the birth star of Krishna.

Recently, many planets (grahas) have crossed through the gandanta zone between Pisces and Aries, a zone that represents the inner churning of the cosmic ocean. It’s a place of intensity and crossing between worlds holding much Shakti.  On this New Moon many of the planets have shifted signs (rashis) recently. The sun (Surya) is conjunct the moon in Rohini.  Mercury (Budh) and Venus (Shukra) are also in Rohini, emphasizing this fertile, earthy energy. Jupiter is in Krittika (in Taurus) and Mars is now in Ashwini (in Aries).
