Distance healing for grief and loss
by Jennifer Aquilina M.Ac.OM, Dipl.Ac.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, many of our lives have been full of massive changes and circumstances that have created loss, sadness and grief. The world has shifted in so many ways. In the traditions of East Asian Medicine, grief is associated with the element metal, the color white, the lung and large intestines. Sadness and grief can fill you up and restrict the breathing and flow of Qi throughout the body. Over time, it can have more widespread effects on the physical, mental, and energetic aspects of us, because everything truly is connected.
THE SCIENCE OF GRIEF AND LOSS
The pioneering book “On Death and Dying” by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, with it’s stages of grief, created the groundwork for later research to explore and question the processing of grief and it’s effects on the body. (4)
Grief has biological and physiological implications. It has been shown to rewire the brain. Research shows the effects of grief on the body and mind to be in line with thinking of East Asian Medicine which is thousands of years old. The “broken heart phenomenon” shows an increased risk of mortality in the first 6 months after loss, or higher chances of adverse events after death of a loved one, such as cardiac events, health events and chronic diseases. The stress of grief, sadness and loss effects cortisol levels and the immune system. Mental stress like rumination and other effects were noted. (1, 2, 3)
While technology offers us many things, we are more than ever removed from deep diving into the universe that is within us. It’s something that we can connect to inside ourselves with some help from tools like distance energy healing. There has been a mass shift happening silently for a long time to take us inside ourselves. The journey into ourselves and methods that resonate at a level of moving beyond the physical and into the energetic realm of the mind, body, and spirit are emerging more significantly at this time for a very big reason and will continue to do so at the same time that technology takes us outside ourselves.
HOW DISTANCE HEALING CAN HELP WITH GRIEF, SADNESS AND LOSS
Distance energy healing (channeled healing or shamanic healing) can help you to tap in to something deeper inside yourself away from the day to day, and source insights and energy from within yourself. Nurturing this deeper connection with your inner self can help you to move through the cascade of physical and emotional experiences when you are dealing with sadness, grief and loss.
During sessions, people report various things, sometimes depending on their level of experience with energy modalities and how open they are to receiving in that way. Everyone has a physical as well as energy anatomy, some people are more oriented towards the energetic than others. In my experience, this can effect what you may experience in a session. Over time, people tend to become more and more able to sense things during the session (in whatever ways they are most oriented-sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing). It is also very common for people to receive insights in the days and weeks after the session through dreams, or even while awake. This is why it’s recommended to keep a journal and pay attention in the days and weeks following the session as more information and experiences may unfold.
HOW A DISTANCE ENERGY HEALING SESSION WORKS
Distance healing is not that different from receiving energy healing in a office you go to. There is no need to drive and deal with traffic and you can rest after your session in the comfort of your own space as long as necessary. It’s not uncommon for people to report that they can sense the practitioner during the session, as if they are in the room with them.
All distance sessions are online or by phone. Before the session, we will spend time talking and setting your intentions for healing before we begin. There are 2 options for a session: channeled energy healing or shamanic energy healing. At the end of the session we will discuss the experience and there may be self-care recommendations or homework. It is very helpful to keep a journal after sessions, so that insights, and other things noticed can be noted for your healing journey.
